PHOTOGRAPHY:  Beginning DSLR Photography

6 weeks / Fall Session

Thursdays 9:30AM - 12:30PM

Join me at Greenville Center for Creative Arts in Greenville SC for this 6 week class where we will abandon the presets in our cameras and learn to control the manual settings.  The class will cover the menus and options found on most DSLR cameras and how to manually change different options to effect the resulting image.  Students will experiment using different apertures, shutter speeds, ISOs and white balances. They will learn when to use those settings to their best advantage as well as practice making strong compositions with the camera.  Please be prepared for going outside when weather permits as we explore the Greenville area and experiment.

Silk Painting II

Take Silk Painting a step further with Kym Easter. In this class you will learn how to build a frame and stretch a piece of raw silk for painting. Kym will teach you how to transfer a pattern, use gutta to draw the lines and paint with silk dies.


The finished scarves will have to go back to Kym’s studio to be steamed and then picked up later in the week.

Painting silk is like painting with liquid magic, you will love it.

"Snow in the Field" - Paint along with Bob to create a winter landscape using wet-on-wet washes dry-on-dry, wet-on-dry and blending techniques.

Each class will be 2 hours in duration and focus on a variety of watercolor painting techniques which will allow the student to continue improving and creating watercolor paintings from their own photographs.

Students will leave the classes with completed watercolor paintings.

At each session a new painting technique will be introduced at the beginning of each class and then it will be incorporated into the painting scheduled for that class.

Students will be e-mailed a photograph of the painting to be completed by them in class on the Sunday preceding the scheduled class.

Cost of the class includes basic supplies.There are 4 classes scheduled. A discounted rate of $125 is available for students signing up for all 4 classes. Payment may be made thourgh Eventbrite or by contacting the instructor.

For anyone who wants to squeeze the most from the camera they carry around every day… It’s not finished just because you hit the shutter release - editing your photos is part of photography.  In this class you will learn what to look for in your photos, how to make basic corrections, and how to go beyond the basic using the tools native to your phone as well as third-party apps that will set your photos apart from the crowd.  Let’s get Creative and see how far we can push this thing! 

This class will be primarily class-room based. If you have an iPad as well as iPhone, feel free to bring it for editing as many apps will work on both devices.

This 4 hour workshop covers the “must know iPhone photography essentials”.  We will go through all the iPhone menus, learn basic maintenance for this handy and powerful camera, how to use the in-phone tools to their best advantage and push ourselves beyond the basics to achieve a comfort level that gets us the results we want.  We’ll also cover some of the optional accessories you might enjoy and where to get them.

While most of this class will take place in the Wild Hare Class Room, be prepared to venture outside to put some of what you learn into practice.  Dress appropriately for the weather and wear comfortable shoes.

This class is a great introduction to my advanced classes “Takin’ ‘Em” and “Bakin’ ‘Em” - watch for those in August!

A workshop at Wild Hare Gallery in Travelers Rest.

 In this 4 hour workshop we will experiment with two styles of transferring photos to non-standard surfaces.  Both processes use photos printed on sheets of transparency that can be transferred to a variety of surfaces.  Sample images, transfer mediums, transfer surfaces including one 4” wood panel per student are supplied by instructor.  Please contact Joann at jojo925@icloud.com or 864-630-1423 for more information or if you would like to be able to print your own images to transfer before the class.

Join Kym Easter for a fun night of acrylic Pouring with the added skill of a floating cup. This will be a dirty pour onto white paint. Holes are poked into the bottom of the cup so it can be “floated” across white paint for very cool effects.
