Artist Statement

Hello!

I am Shannon Brush of Sbrush Studios. I am thrilled to be displaying some of my works here at the Wild Hare Gallery. My journey as an artist has spanned many years and incorporates a variety of mediums, styles and influences. To me, art is a language without boundaries that is spoken by everyone. Color, texture and composition set the dialogue. I strongly believe that process of creating provides a unique and optimal experience for healing. After a long career of working in the field of Occupational Therapy, I know the opportunities that allow me to use the creative process within my therapeutic sessions provided my patients a more holistic and accessible approach to recovery and wellness. I still hear from past clients how they return to these lessons years after our last session.

Artists, on the whole, are very inquisitive people. I am no exception. The upheaval of the pandemic and resulting supply shortages provided a unique circumstance. If I couldn’t find a paint or color I needed, could I make my own? More importantly, could I create a type of paint that was resilient enough to handle to stress of fluid art and maintain its properties without pixelating or fragmenting while holding a high pigment load? After an 18-month journey that was more failure than success, I found my recipe. Most of the works you see are due to the crazy but fascinating adventure I had playing mad scientist!

Thank you for joining me. I am so happy to be part of your artistic conversation. Commissioned pieces are available upon request.

Warmest regards.
